Discover the King Charles III England Coast Path
The King Charles III England Coast Path is an exciting way to experience the natural beauty, wildlife and coastal heritage of the Wirral Peninsula. As part of England’s new National Trail, the route follows the coastline around the Wirral, offering ever-changing views across the Irish Sea and the Dee Estuary towards the Welsh hills. The Wirral section runs for approximately 36 miles from Seacombe to the Welsh border, passing through an expansive variety of landscapes from promenades and beaches to dunes, grassland, woodland and saltmarsh.
One of the most attractive stretches is around West Kirby and Hoylake, where the character of the coastline changes dramatically with the tides. In West Kirby, the path follows the waterfront beside the Marine Lake, with magnificent views across the Dee Estuary towards North Wales. At low tide, the vast sands are revealed and Hilbre Island becomes a striking feature of the landscape. The island can be reached on foot from West Kirby during suitable tides making this a particularly memorable area for walkers and nature lovers.
Heading north towards Hoylake, the route reaches the distinctive Red Rocks area, where the views open out across the Dee Estuary and towards the Welsh hills. The coastline here is an idyllic place for a leisurely walk, with wide skies, sea air and the ever-changing scenery created by the tides. The surrounding beaches and coastal habitats also provide opportunities to spot a variety of birds and other wildlife.
